The Court of Auditors has published its 2020 State Budget Report, accompanied by 65 budget performance analysis notes.
2020 was dominated by the health crisis and massive State interventions in response, resulting in the adoption of four Amending Finance Acts. In terms of performance, the deficit increased considerably (+€85 billion) compared to 2019, reaching €178 billion in 2020. As a result, State debt rose very sharply (+€178 billion) and now stands at €2,001 billion.
In addition to the general budget, the Court examined all financial resources allocated by the State to public policies, finding them subject to inadequate oversight and control.
